Algonquin Park is home to the Eastern Wolf, which travels in packs across territories that range from 150 to 500 square kilometres in size. The western boundary of the park is 35km from the front door of the Muskoka Roastery. Hmmm. Everyone is familiar with the sound of wolf’s howl, but what are they saying? Biologists believe that a single howl, or only one wolf howling, is a method of staying in contact when the pack is spread out. A pack howl is used, they suspect, when the pack wants to defend its territory from intruders. The final reason some biologists believe wolves howl is for social cohesion, similar to how humans use singing. Our rationale is clear then – a socially cohesive workplace!
